Almost there…

Hello everyone,

I am so excited! My mommy told me that we will be going to the United States to have my surgery soon. YEAY! I have asked my mommy to pack my diapers, my clothes, and most importantly my favorite toy. You know, i can’t sleep without my favorite toy. I am scared of the dark and my toy helps me sleep at night.

I currently do not have enough for all my surgeries, but I should have enough for my first. Thank you all for your support and generosity. We are half way there!!

We are now using your donations from the Give Forward account to help pay for my first surgery. We will be consolidating our efforts and collecting all donations through our IKF’s Wonderfund™ account. I will still need about $85,000 for my last two surgeries, so please remember me and keep me in your prayers. Please continue to spread the word. I will make sure to let you know all about my first surgery and my first airplane ride.

There will be many first experiences for me, but the one that i am still looking forward to, is my first birthday cake. I can only thank you for helping me reach that goal.

Sleep with the angels.

With love and kisses,

Baby Maria

Hello everyone!

Have you missed me?  I have missed you!

My mommy and I have been very busy.  So many people and organizations have contacted my mommy.  I feel so loved and I am very excited.

If I can jump up and down I would, but at the moment, I can only show my excitement by throwing my toys on the floor and watching my mommy pick it up over and over again (hee hee). – giggle.

I have an important update.  An excellent doctor by the name of Dr.Rafael Gosalbez has agreed to perform my surgery.  It is a blessing that we are able to find each other.  I can’t wait to meet him!!

There are many organizations that are helping me in different ways.  One of the organization, IKF’s Wonderfund™, is coordinating with Dr.Rafael to help me get the surgeries I need.  They are also helping my mommy gathering more donations for me.

I am also going to have my surgeries at Holtz Children’s Hospital.  While we have contacted many hospitals for help, my mommy and I are amazed by the high level of service, empathy, and kindness shown by this excellent hospital. I am very lucky because this hospital is ranked amongst the top in the world, and I know that I will be in very good hands.

We will be creating a “Gratitude” page on our site to show our thanks for all the organizations that will be helping me.  If I could put every name on the site I would, but I am afraid I would miss someone by accident, and I don’t want anyone to feel left out.

Please know that we are so grateful for all the help that I am receiving from everyone.

My mommy says that there are times when a person would be at a loss for words.  This is because they are so touched by a gesture, or kind words.

I am very hopeful that I will be growing up in a very loving place. I have seen my mommy be at a loss for words by the amount of kindness and support shown toward us.  Thank you…

With love and kisses,

Baby Maria Jose

Hello everyone.  My name is Maria Jose and I am eight (8) months old!  I’m reaching out because I desperately need your help.

I was born with a severe physical disorder called Cloacal Exstrophy.  This means that my abdominal organs, including my bladder and intestines, are exposed.  My Mommy told me that it is very severe and extremely rare, which explains the pain and discomfort I experience every day.  I still try to smile for my Mommy and I think she understands why I feel blue some days.  They try to be brave, but I know my Mommy and Daddy worry about me a lot!

I think it’s best that I keep my goals simple, like learning how to share my love, laughter and smiles with my Mommy & Daddy, but I do have one special goal and that is to make it to my first birthday!  Then, perhaps I will be old enough to blow out my own candle?  Well, perhaps Mommy might have to help me, but then I fully intend to dive into the cake head-first followed by both fists.  I want it to be spongy with frosting and loads of yummy fruit and sprinkles!  Don’t tell my Mommy, but my motto at this age is, the messier the better.

Sorry, I digress … like I said, my condition is very severe and there is only one very special Doctor who can perform the surgery necessary to try and save my life.  His name is Dr. John P. Gearhart from John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.  Through the grapevine, I have been told by many Doctors that he is the best in the field and he can help me.  I can’t wait to meet him!!  However, there are a couple of problems which prevent me from meeting this really “cool” doctor.

The first is that I live in Colombia and I need to fly to a place called the United States to get my surgery.  The second is that it is very expensive for Dr. John to perform the complex surgery that could make me better.  It makes my Mommy and Daddy so sad that they don’t have the “economic means” (aka magic beans in my terminology) to cover the costs related to the travel and treatment and yet they have been told that if I don’t see Dr. John soon, I would need a miracle to survive.

At this very magical age, I want to believe in miracles.  I want to believe that there are people out there who can help me.

I don’t know where to start to find help.  If you know of anyone who can help me or if there are any international foundations that can help my Mommy and Daddy bring me to this fairytale place called the United States of America to have my surgery, I would be very grateful.

If you can spare any magic beans, any at all, please send them to my Give Forward Fund Raising account and I promise that you will be remembered with so much love when I blow out my birthday candle!  If you can’t spare any I quite understand (because as my Mommy keeps telling me, they don’t grow on trees), but you can still help me by responding to my post and clicking “like” to help spread the word!

Okay – it’s time for me to go to bed, after all, I am only 8 months old and I need a lot of sleep.  Thank you for reading my post.

Love and Hugs,

Baby Maria Jose
